This awesome radio is a rare German tube radio manufactured by Blaupunkt Ideal Werke AG in 1959.  It contains 6 tubes and has AM FM and SW bands.  This Sultan has 2 speakers and a built in AM ferrite antenna as well as a built in FM loop antenna.  It is an Export model having the full FM range from 87.5 to 108 MHz.  It also has bass and treble tone adjustments, pushbutton tone settings, an external speaker connection, and a record player input which accepts any audio input such as Bluetooth, IPAD etc.  with the use of a proper cable.

The radio measures  21 x 14 x  8.5 inches.

This cabinet is in ORIGINAL condition...NOT restored, but hand polished to look just the way it was back in 1959 with 60 plus years of patina added!    The photos highlight a few minor imprefections including a minor repaired crack in the front plastic trim.

I removed the chassis from the cabinet and cleaned and dusted everything, I tested the tubes, capacitors and resistors and anything that was not in acceptable ranges were replaced.  The pushbutton assembly was cleaned with DeoxIT D5 and works nicely.  The plastic trim, buttons and controls were cleaned and hand polished.   I did replace the magic eye tuning tube with a fresh equivalent so it shines bright and responds well to station changes.

  • Blaupunkt was founded in 1924 in Berlin, Germany.  Initally called "Ideal," the company was acquired by Robert Bosch AG in 1933.   In 1938 it changed its name to "Blaupunkt", German for "blue point" or "blue dot", after the blue dot painted onto its headphones that had passed quality control.  Blaupunkt was and still is known for its high end automotive audio equipment.

Blaupunkt created the "3D" sound effect innovation, used in this model,  in 1954, and other radio manufacturers quickly started copying this inovation.

This beautiful Blaupunkt Sultan 3d 2320 was first built in 1956 for the American market and is a nice piece of history bought back to its former glory.

  • Nothing has been done to this radio that is not described here.  THIS IS NOT A FULLY RESTORED RADIO but rather an original antique radio that has been inspected and repaired as necessary to make it function as it was originally intended.  As with all of my radios, I have played this radio for hours several days a week before I put it up for sale.  I do my best to describe every item in detail.  Please look over the photos and contact me with any questions.

Vintage radios were manufactured decades ago in a time of relaxed electrical safety and with primitive technology as compared with today's standards. Many early radios were made with the metal chassis electrically connected to one side of the power cord. This can give you a strong shock if you happen to touch the radio chassis and anything else that is grounded at the same time. In addition, tubes can get very hot and cause serious burns if touched accidentally after the radio has been running for a while. These dangers are minimal if the complete cabinet, back, and knobs are all in place and no metal parts are exposed. Vintage Radio Electronics, whether restored or un-restored, are by nature hazardous due to their voltage, design, heat output and age. They should not be operated unattended, without adult supervision or for great lengths at a time. Any operation, adjustments or repairs are done at your own risk. None of the radios sold at this shop have been modified or upgraded to modern standards.
