This is a beautiful Mid Century Modern (MCM), fully functional Telefunken Gavotte 5353W manufactured in West Germany in 1961.  This is an export model so the FM coverage range is from 88-108 MHz.   The electronic design of this model incorporates an early version of a component circuit board (see photos). The sound is outstanding! It has been "repaired and preserved."  By that I mean it is a fully functioning radio with original componentry except for any items found defective which were replaced.  
 
The original wood case was in very poor condition with major surface cracking (see photos 6 and 7).  It was hand sanded with 320 grit sandpaper multiple times to smooth out the cracks.  It was then coated with 5 thin coats of clear lacquer and then hand polished.  The cracks are still visible but they now look smooth and the radio has a fabulous patina!  All other parts have been thoroughly cleaned and polished but not refinished.  Everything is original!
 
The chassis was removed from the case and all parts were well inspected and tested.  Any defective capacitors were replaced, any resistors out of specifications were replaced and any weak or dead tubes replaced.  The panel lights were replaced.  The magic tuning eye was replaced with a new equivalent and now shines brightly and responds to station strength as it was designed.   Bass, Treble and Volume and push button controls have been cleaned and lubricated.  They all respond well. The pressboard back is in great shape with no damage.
 
Nothing has been done to this radio that is not described here.  THIS IS NOT A FULLY RESTORED RADIO but rather an original vintage item that has been inspected and repaired as necessary to make it functional.  As with all of my radios, I have played this radio for hours several days a week before I put it up for sale.  I do my best to describe every item in detail.  Please look over the photos and contact me with any questions. As with any old tube radio, this should not be left unattended or played for long periods of time.
