Here is an original WEGA Model 219 tube radio made from real Teak Wood. WEGA (pronounced VEGA), a German company from Stuttgart, produced some of the best radios of its time featuring famous designer models by Hartmut Esslinger and Verner Panton. This radio demonstrates a flair for a first class, timeless, simple design in fine tropical wood. WEGA was founded in 1923 and later acquired by Sony in 1975.
Everything on this radio is original with the exception of the power cord which was replaced recently. It has NOT been restored nor has it been artistically altered. It has, however, been gone over and tested thoroughly. There are some light scratches in the finish and a small repaired imperfection on the top left as shown in the highlighted picture but you can barely notice it. Not bad for 60 years!!
I removed the chassis from the cabinet and cleaned and dusted everything, I tested the tubes, capacitors and resistors and everything was in acceptable ranges. Anything found out of range has been replaced. The pushbutton assembly was cleaned with DeoxIT D5 and works nicely. The original finish was hand polished.
I pick up many FM stations even known weak stations play well. I receive some AM and SW stations but not many. I believe it's the area that I live in. I have many tube radios and have difficulty tuning in stations on these bands.
