This is a wonderful and rare example of a pre-war small wood tabletop tube radio.  It was manufactured by the Emerson Radio & Phonograph Corp. from New York way back in 1934.  It is a smaller size Radio measuring only 9" tall and 11 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" deep.

The radio is clean, attractive and semi functional.  It powers up and looks great when the two indicaters behind both knobs glow (see photo). However, THIS RADIO PICKS UP ONLY A FEW STATIONS IN MY AREA.  Other AM radios that I have pick up more stations.  Your area may produce better results.  Therefore, I consider this to be more decorative than functional.  All old AM receivers are prone to picking up "noise" from electronic equipment, LED or fluorescent lighting, etc.  They also require a long wire antenna. This unit comes with one already installed.  You may need to add to it and run it along the walls of a room at floor level.

The speaker grill cloth has been replaced.  The wood cabinet has been lightly sanded, stained and protected.  My "restoration philosophy" is to preserve as much of the original finish and strip to bare wood only when necessary.  Therefore you will still see some of the patina and wear and tear that has developed on this radio over the course of it's 80 plus year old history.

The controls have been cleaned and lubricated.  The electronics have been thoroughly gone over.  All paper and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents and every resistor has been checked and replaced if found to be defective.  Any brittle wiring has been replaced.  The pots have been cleaned with CDC contact cleaner.  Each tube has been tested and replaced if weak or defective.  Nothing has been done to this radio that is not described here.

Once I finish a radio to my satisfaction, I move it from my workshop to my office and will "use it" for weeks  before listing it for sale.  There are two reasons for doing this: one is to allow the radio to run for hours to determine if there are any intermittent problems and the other is to allow me to enjoy it for a while!

I do my best to describe every item in detail.  Please look over the photos and contact me with any questions.
